An event to come together with fellow data-vis enthusiasts to exchange ideas!
Dear data-visualisation enthusiasts,
It's our pleasure to announce a data visualisation get-together!
On Wednesday eve November 14th, the first edition of the Data Vis Knowledge Exchange will take place in Eindhoven.
As a strength of the data visualisation field we recognize the diverse backgrounds of its participants, from journalism to engineering, from science to fashion, from cartography to health care. The purpose of this get-together is to bring people from all these backgrounds together to exchange their knowledge and experience, and stimulate inspiration and collaboration.
There will be a main presentation, after which there will be an 'open podium' where participants can share their work and ideas in the form of brief, 5 minute lightning talks. There is also the possibility to share an example of your work which will be projected during the evening in a showreel.
We are happy to announce that Professor Jack van Wijk will come and present! He is a full professor in visualization at the TU/e and will talk about the history of academic data visualisation and share his extensive expertise in this area.
We hope you can join us! Please register using this link, so that we can make sure to arrange for the right number of chairs and pizza, and stay below the maximum capacity of the space :)
You can present your work in a 5 minute lightning talk. This does not need to be "finished" work! In fact, it may just be a sketch or idea you have, or a dataset in which you are stuck. You can sign up for a lightning talk using the sign-up link, or decide on the eve itself and let us know then!
Everyone can share an example of their work which will then be projected (on a separate screen) during the evening. Email us a (series of) images (JPG, 1920x1080 pixels) or a video (MOV, max 30sec) and we will add to this showreel. The showreel will also be published online to refer back to the event.
Many thanks to our friends at Mapcreator (Maps4News) for being a generous sponsor of this event! They will take care of the food and drinks and will welcome you in their office (5 min walk from central station Eindhoven):
Bogert 31-06, 5612 LX, Eindhoven (6th floor of Eindhoven Tower)
In case you need an extra reason to visit Eindhoven the 14th: it will be Glow light festival, featuring fantastic light-installations from 18:30 to 23:00. Thanks to GLOW there is a reduced fee for train tickets to Eindhoven: a two-way trip will be just EUR 19,-. Buy your traintickets through NS here.
Parking is next to the building, you can reach it via the Pastoor Peterstraat. Maps4News will send everyone who signs up a detailed map with these locations prior to the 14th/
The presentations will be held in English, unless on the eve itself it so happens that everyone speaks Dutch.
Feel free to share this information with people in the data visualisation field who you think would like to join!
We look forward to seeing you on November 14th!
